We've had a good run for the past few weeks but that ended at the weekend when four white rhinos were poached at Weenen Game Reserve, about 50 kilometres away from Estcourt, - bringing the total losses for the province so far this year to 69.
Three of the four rhinos were found with their horns removed.
More than 700 rhinos have been lost nationally.
Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife's Lawrence Munroe - who co-ordinates the Zululand Anti-Poaching air wing - says they are devastated by the latest killings, adding though that there's a worrying new poaching method emerging.
Let's hope the poachers in this case are arrested before more rhinos are killed.
Incidentally, Lawrence says their new Operations Room - from where they'll coordinate anti poaching aerial ops in Zululand - is coming along nicely. They hope to have it running within the next two weeks.
