Police have mounted ground and aerial security operations in Baragoi following last week’s attack that left five people dead and several others injured.
The search is meant to recover more than 1,000 cattle stolen last Friday morning following an attack on Uaso Rongai Village.
Monday’s multi-agency operation was also aimed at recovering illegal firearms said to be in the hands of cattle rustlers.
This comes barely two days after leaders from Samburu County demanded swift government action to end what they described as senseless killings in the area.
However, sources close to the security mission have hinted that although the police had spotted the livestock in Suguta Valley, they decided against venturing into the area due to the risks involved.
This is because more than 40 security officers were massacred in the valley last year following a botched security operation in which 48 firearms were reportedly stolen from officers.
Rustlers who hide in the valley are said to be heavily armed and the terrain, which they are familiar with, gives them another tactical advantage over security forces. More....
