Members of the public are being asked to share anything they might know about the recent poaching of a mule deer buck in Blaine County, MT.
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Warden Dirk Paulsen said the deer was illegally shot and killed from a county road on the Triple H Block Management Area about 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 18 2013.
The deer was left, but the meat was salvaged by Paulsen and fellow Warden Andy Fuerst and donated to the Havre Food Bank.
The area where the buck was killed is located south of the former Plainsmen bar and restaurant between Havre and Chinook. Paulsen said other people hunting nearby heard three shots. The dead buck was recovered by the wardens a short time later.
“The shooting of game from the public roadways has greatly increased in the last week or so due to the rut,” Paulsen said. “We don’t have that many deer left in these parts, and this wasteful and senseless take of what’s left is extremely harmful to the resource.”
Anyone with more details about this case is asked to call Paulsen directly at 406-263-0620 or the Turn In Poachers-Montana hotline at 1-800-TIP-MONT (1-800-847-6668). Callers can remain anonymous and may be offered a cash reward if the information leads to an arrest.
