Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) rangers have recovered three rifles with 25 rounds of ammunition and arrested 45 suspected poachers across the country in the past one week.
An elephant tusk, gazelle, waterbuck and buffalo meat were also seized in the same anti-poaching operations.
This brings to a total of 14 rifles and 117 rounds of ammunition recovered from suspected poachers by KWS rangers in the past one month.
One unidentified body was also recovered from Aberdares National Park believed to be of a suspected poacher injured during a gun fight two weeks ago. His accomplices were shot dead and a rifle recovered during the incident.
In Isiolo County at Nkisii area, one suspect was arrested and a rifle with four rounds of ammunition recovered on Wednesday (May 30, 2012). In the same county at Oromondei area, members of the community surrendered a rifle with two rounds of ammunition to KWS officials during a community engagement meeting on Friday (May 31, 2012). Another rifle with 19 rounds of ammunitions and an army uniform were recovered at Olterkesi area on Saturday (June, 2, 2012).
