A 19-year-old Polk County man has been arrested as part of an investigation into poaching in southeast Hillsborough County, and now he faces county and state charges.
About 10:30 a.m. Friday, deputies Dean Cary and Roy Johnson found a pickup in a wooded area near Bethlehem and Albritton roads, and the vehicle matched the description of one used by poachers, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.
No one was in the truck, but deputies determined it had been driven recently and contained hunting equipment and the remnants of what could have been recently killed animals, the sheriff’s office said.
The deputies called for assistance from air and K-9 units. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers were requested and responded to the scene.
Deputies then found and arrested Dalton W. Gant, 19, of 25 Orange St., Mulberry, on a charge of armed trespassing on private property.
FWC officers cited Gant for taking and possessing game out of season and attempting to take game out of season.
Several weapons were confiscated, as well as the carcass of a skinned dear, the sheriff’s office said.
