The Swiss-based Friends of Serengeti organisation has dished-out assorted items worth 35m/-, towards intensifying the fight against poaching in the country’s national parks.
The facilities were handed over to the director general of the Tanzania National Parks Allan Kijazi.
Among the donated items include money worth 3m/-, which is part of the 14m/-, the organisation pledged to support the fight against poaching in Serengeti and Tarangire National Parks.
Other facilities include communication radios, binoculars, lights, cameras and tents.
Managing director of the Friends of Serengeti organisation, Suzan Shio, said the donation is a result of contribution made by well-wishers and Swiss-based tourists.
She said that right now the organisation has more than 200 members, who have been supporting the Tanzania’s wildlife watchdog to enable it stamp out indiscriminate killing of animals in its national parks.
Shio said her organisation has been supporting conservation programmes across the world for the last 30 years and that they have lately been concerned by wanton killings of wild animals by poachers for their trophies. More....
