Nomadic tribe is off late causing immense damage to the wildlife in the state of Uttrakhand. This fact has come to light when to Bawariyas (Nomads) were arrested by the staff of Landsdowne forest division on Friday evening from a forested tract of their jurisdiction.
It is reported that the arrested Bawariyas have been taken to Haldwani for further interrogation.
Senior forest official told Indileak that Bawariyas have off late emerged as a cause of conern for the forest department as they all have developed crude indigenous techniques for killing wild animals. This tribe is quite active in the forested areas as well as wildlife sanctuaries of the state, said the official.
He said that the nomads are seen to have used crude bombs, cable snares and gin traps in poaching of animals.
Elaborating on this count, the official said that minced meat stuffed inside locally made explosive that are given the shape of a small ball are used a crude bombs. These balls (crude bombs) are then strewn in forests where animals concentrate, especially the wild boars. “Once these balls are chewed by the animal, it explodes resulting in animal’s head being blown off causing instant death,” said the official.
The cable snares and gin traps are fixed on well beaten animal paths in the forest and once the animal takes that route after the trap is laid, they get caught in these devices and the Bawariyas later visit the site and they spear the animal to death. More....
