Grant County investigators uncovered a large deer poaching operation Monday, following a tip and subsequent car chase of a suspected poacher.
Deputies found 14 deer carcasses on the suspect's property, both outside and in the house.
Aaron Gregory, 29, was taken into custody on a variety of charges, some from the Department of Natural Resources for alleged poaching violations and some from the car chase, according to a news release from the Grant County Sheriff's Office.
The incident started at about 6 p.m. Monday when a report came in to the sheriff's office about a possible poaching complaint at 6573 Stumptown Road in the town of Platteville.
"Deputies got a description of the vehicle and suspect and located the vehicle," the release said.
Gregory allegedly drove off at a high rate of speed, reaching up to 95 miles per hour, with deputies in pursuit until calling off the chase for safety reasons.
"The vehicle was located shortly after the pursuit was called, as it had lost control and came to rest in a ditch line on Stumptown Road," the release said.
Deputies approached the vehicle, but Gregory allegedly drove the vehicle out of the ditch and toward the squad cars.
"At the last minute the vehicle drove into the ditch line in an attempt to get around deputies," the release said. More....
