EMERY COUNTY — Two young buck deer were illegally shot and killed recently, and the state Division of Wildlife Resources is seeking the public’s help locating the poachers.
DWR officers believe the deer were killed March 16 between 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., according to a DWR news release. The deer were shot and left to waste on Stump Flat Road, west of Huntington.
“Poaching is a serious crime that robs sportsmen and other wildlife enthusiasts of the opportunity to legally harvest an animal or to view it in its natural habitat,” DWR officials said.
Anyone with information regarding the illegal killing of these deer can contact the UTIP hotline at 1-800-662-3337. Rewards are available for information leading to the arrest of the poachers, and tipsters can remain anonymous.
The number of animals poached in Utah has increased more than 30 percent over the past two years. In 2014, 316 big game animals valued at $487,250 were illegally killed, according to recent reports. Video.
