Dogs are said to be man’s best friend; they make fantastic companions, are great running partners, and they love you unconditionally. When you’re having a down day, just hug your buddy and tell them all about it. So with the easy decision to choose to adopt rather than shop, it’s disheartening to hear that puppy mills still exist in the world.
A fellow Green Monster describes puppy mill dogs as similar to factory farmed animals, with the only difference being the state in which they end up on the shelves — factory farm animals end up at the grocery stores, puppy mill dogs at pet stores.
Dogs living in mill conditions must be saved, and here’s some more great news to report: One of the largest puppy mill raids in Quebec’s history led to the rescue of over 200 dogs and puppies! Upon entering the puppy mill, the Humane Society International team in Canada saw a horrific scene, including dog-filled dirty cages stacked floor to ceiling.
