PRICE — Three sheriff’s offices are giving out money in an effort to solve a recent increase in cattle thefts.
The Deseret News reports detectives in Emery, Grand and Carbon counties have received thousands of dollars in funds from cattlemen’s groups in the region for a reward program. Detectives say if a tip pans out, the person who provided it will be rewarded.
Joe Sacco, who owns Sacco Brothers Land & Livestock with his three brothers, says more than two dozen calves are missing from their range.
Carbon County sheriff’s detective Wally Hendricks says another rancher lost five cows and more than a dozen calves. The cost of that theft is estimated at $31,000.
Sacco said the reward money will help deputies catch the people who are stealing from hardworking ranchers.
