The Wildlife officers have rescued five elephants of the same herd this morning while they were abandoned in an agricultural well in the Horawala neighborhood at Maha Elagama in Kekirawa.
The Wildlife officers who arrived in the scene evacuated the farmers from their chenas before the rescue operation.
The Kekirawa Wildlife Office stated that two grown up elephants and three calves were among rescued elephants.
Meanwhile residents in the area complained that the authorities have so far failed to solve the wild elephant menace which has been threatening the day to day life of the residents of Maha Elagama, Moragollagama, Maha Kekirawa and Horawala. Photos and video.
