MANILA – Seven Vietnamese poachers were arrested in Quezon, Palawan over the weekend.
The Philippine Coast Guard in Palawan said the seven Vietnamese were apprehended while poaching 27 nautical miles of Alungan Point in the town of Quezon.
The Vietnamese tried to elude arrest by speeding off in their vessel, but they were eventually arrested after a 30-minute chase.
Seized from the alleged poachers' vessel were nine pieces of yellowfin tuna.
The poachers were turned over to the Armed Forces of the Philippines Western Command for a medical check-up and then to the Presidential Commission on Illegal Entrants.
The Vietnamese are facing charges for poaching and illegal entry.
