The owners of tamed elephants Association held a protest march today asking the authorities to introduce a proper method to identify tamed elephants in the country.
The protest which began at Pelawatta made a fine spectacle in the city as nearly 20 jumbos were brought for the protest march that led towards the Wildlife Ministry.
Our correspondent said that the monks of the Sinhala Ravaya also joined the protesters in the march and in handing over of a petition to the Wildlife authorities.
Meanwhile Environmental Organizations charged intermittently about an ongoing racket where wild elephant calves are poached for sale.
Similarly, a tip-off given by Environmental Organizations, the Wildlife officers were able to find an injured wild elephant calf while it was kept in a house at Arawwala in Maharagama recently.
However a member of the Tamed Elephants Owners Association P.N. Dammika told our news team during the protest march that the environmental organizations have been undertaken a plan to eradicate tamed elephants from this country.
