The case against a woman, 41, charged with rhino poaching has been postponed to June 19 in the Pienaar Magistrates’ Court in Mpumalanga.
The woman, Margaret Mthetwa, was arrested last week after a bloodied axe, five 3.75 mm rounds, a pocket scale, rhino poaching equipment as well as a large sum of cash were found in her possession in Zwelisha, Pienaar, Lowvelder reported.
The suspect appeared in court last Wednesday and was released on bail.
Last month, two suspected rhino poachers were arrested in Hazyview, Mpumalanga.
Colonel Vishnu Naidoo said members of Operation Rhino arrested the two at Nyongane on Tuesday.
“One suspect was found with five 458 PMP rifle rounds, four R5 rounds, two PMP 270 rounds, one PMP 71 MR7 round and an air rifle. His accomplice was found with a hunting rifle, one homemade silencer and a firearm barrel.”
One was charged with possession of a prohibited firearm, while the other was charged with illegal possession of ammunition, Naidoo said.
“The duo were detained at Hazyview police cells,” he said.
