VERNAL — Division of Wildlife Resources officers are seeking information about a buck pronghorn that was killed and decapitated near Vernal.
DWR officers received a tip about a headless pronghorn discovered near an oil field along the Seven Sisters Road, about 35 miles south of Vernal, according to a DWR news release.
Officers discovered that the head had been removed from the carcass of the animal and the meat had been left to waste. Evidence suggested that the buck pronghorn was killed illegally around May 2, the news release said.
Anyone with information about the poaching incident can contact Officer Bryan Clyde at 435-790-4630 or the UTIP Hotline at 800-662-3337. Tipsters can remain anonymous and a reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the poacher.
DWR officials reported that in 2014, there were 316 illegally taken big game animals that had a total aggregate value of $487,250.
