LINGAYEN, Pangasinan -- A cattle rustler on the police watch list was arrested Sunday after he and an unidentified companion stole a carabao in Barangay Iloco, Bani and slaughtered it in a secluded grassy area, leaving as evidence three legs of the animal at the site.
With the aid of the owner of the carabao, Elarde Candoy, the police located in the morning of Dec. 13 the place where the cattle rustlers slaughtered the animal from where they found only three legs of the carabao.
The suspect was identified as Jonathan Dorico, 41, of Barangay Banog Sur, Bani who could have denied the crime of cattle rustling had not the police found in the kitchen of his house the missing leg of the carabao.
At that time he has already disposed of most of the meat of the animal.
Candoy reported that his carabao went missing on the night of December 12. He told the police that while searching for his animal the next morning, he saw Dorico riding on a motorcycle with an unidentified back rider along the road.
Since Dorico is on the cattle rustler watch list, it had been easy for the police to locate his house, where they found the missing leg of the carabao being readied for cooking.
Dorico will be charged with violation of Presidential Decree 533 (cattle rustling) and Republic Act 10591 since lawmen found in his possession a caliber 39 pistol with three live ammunition.
