GARRARD COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Deputies in Garrard County are investigating a case of cattle rustling. The owner of four cattle found them missing this weekend.
Rob Dean runs a feed shop in Garrard County. He knows how expensive raising and keeping cattle can be. He's spent about $4,000 so far raising four this year on his farm. Those four, he says, someone stole this past weekend.
"Of course every farmer feeds their cattle first thing every morning normally, and 7 o'clock, I noticed them missing," recalls Dean, "ever who stole them, actually knew what they were doing and had dealt with cattle before. You could pretty much tell they knew what they were doing when they got them"
Dean tells us the gates to the pen were locked, and that he and his wife didn't see any tire tracks or footprints leading away from the farm.
The theft is the second he's heard about. Dean says a customer of his lost cattle to thieves in the early spring.
"I pretty much wrote them off as a loss, but if I can keep one farmer from losing cattle, be alert, that's all I can do," says Dean.
Garrard County Sheriff Tim Davis says his deputies work closely with stockyards to try and track down thieves. Video.
