BERHAMPUR: Panic has gripped more than 10 villages near Mujagada forest range under Bhanjanagar sub-division after three herds of elephants have been damaging the standing paddy crops in the area for the last few days.
South and North Ghumusur forest office sources said around 40 elephants including three tuskers are present in the forest. While a herd of 11 elephants was found at Tiliki, another herd was spotted at Lathipada and the third herd in Jagannath Prasad forest range. A lone tusker was found wandering in Biripadar area.
On being informed, forest guards have started patrolling near the villages. The farmers would be compensated after the crop damage reports were prepared by the officials.
