Thiruvananthapuram: Nine persons have been detained by the Kerala Forest Department in connection with the poaching of elephants in Vazhachal and Athirapally regions.
The culprits were nabbed from Thiruvananthapuram and surrounding areas.
Two elephant tusks and idols made out of ivory were recovered from those held in Balaramapuram in connection with the case.
Three officials of the Forest Department namely P.K. Rajesh, Thundathil Range Officer; K.P. Sunilkumar, Karimboli Station Deputy Range Officer; and C.C. Pathrose, Karimboli section forest officer, were suspended on Saturday last week in connection with the incident.
The government appointed a team, headed by Chief Wildlife Warden Harikumar, to probe the case.
