RAJBIRAJ: A herd of elephants from Koshi Wildlife Preservation Centre destroyed as many as two dozen houses in different wards of Kanchanpur Municipality in Saptari yesterday evening.
A herd of wild animal entered the human settlement and demolished houses and food grains at around 6:00 am last Sunday.
Area Police Office, Kanchanpur informed that the elephants destroyed two dozen houses at wards 4, 5 and 10 of the municipality.
Houses belonging to Sukal Sah, Mahendra Thakur, Jitan Chaudhary, Siyalal Yadav, Ghatar Sardar, Bhenuwa Chaudhary, Gulai Sardar, Rambilash Gupta, Chandranarayan Das, Rajendra Sah, Shyamsundhar Sardar, among others, were destroyed at ward no 4, 5 and 10 respectively, said police.
Locals and Policemen chased the animals away on Monday morning. Due to fear of the animals, locals are compelled to stay awake the whole night.
