KLUANG: A KAMPUNG Ilham villager has urged the authorities to install electrical fences around his oil palm plantation as it is being destroyed by elephants.
He claimed that his problems started after the authorities began constructing the Kluang dam last year.
Losing their natural habitat, the elephants were looking for food at the oil palm plantation.
Villager Abdul Sani Japeri, 55, said that 483 of 715 oil palm trees have been destroyed during harvest time, causing heavy losses to his income.
“In the past, I could harvest about one-and-half-tonnes of oil palm.
“Now, I can only harvest half a tonne.
“I hope the authorities will build the electrical fence soon. I can no longer bear the financial losses,” he said.
