The erstwhile Left Front regime did not ensure a proper food cycle for elephants in jungles, which led them to stray into human habitations, Forest minister Binay Krishna Barman said today.
Elephants strayed into villages near jungles as the Left Front regime did not do much for ensuring a proper food cycle for them, Barman told the Assembly.
He also alleged that the previous regime took a few steps which were not good for forests.
Barman said that appropriate strategies had been taken to reduce man-animal conflict, including power fences and judicious use of tranqilisation techniques.
Nylon netting was also being used to prevent Royal Bengal tigers from straying into villages in the Sunderbans, he added.
