A woman was trampled to death by elephants at bordering Kornajhora Chandapara village in Sribardi upazila early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Umesa Bewa, 42, wife of late Saidur Rahman of the village.
According to locals and officials, a herd of wild elephants entered the village from Kornajhora hill and swooped on several houses at the village at about 2:00am.
Villagers, equipped with torches and spears, gathered to drive away the elephants.
Umesa was trampled to death by the elephants although she fled the spot and took shelter on a hilltop.
Mother of five, Umesa's husband was a poor day-labourer in the area.
Locals and officials said wild elephants coming from Garo hills have killed over 100 people in three upazilas of the district in the last one decade.
