Police in Kohima undertaking routine spot checks on cars discovered smugglers attempting to transport at least 10 tonnes of pangolin scales yesterday. 6 people – 3 men and 3 women – travelling in 3 cars were stopped.
After a search the police officers discovered 10 tonnes (10,008kg) of pangolin scales and 500 kg of ginseng.
Police officers of Khuzama police station were conducting vehicle check duties along the Chakhabama road near Dzu-u River.
The 6 people arrested have been charged with violation of the Indian Forest Act and Indian Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.
