A traffic officer in Narok county has recorded a statement with the police after he got death threats from alleged poachers and game meat dealers. Two months ago, David Chumo was commended for his spirited efforts in conserving the environment.
He arrested poachers on the busy Narok-Mai Mahiu road. Chumo, who refused to take a Sh60,000 bribe, intercepted 6,000kgs of giraffe meat at Siyaibei. It was destined for Burma Market in Nairobi from Maasai Mara. Yesterday, Chumo said he is seeking protection after an SMS warned him that he will be killed.
"Hi chumo, hope you know us, you have arrested and jailed our brothers while looking for a loaf of bread for their children, umesaidika na nini? "Enough is enough, you will die mysteriously, Inspector General of Police David Kimayio and President Uhuru Kenyatta will not feed your family, we are coming for your head," reads part of the message.
