Villagers in Ngoingwa in Thika, Kiambu county are living in fear of being attacked by two hippos in an area dam.
The two animals usually come out in the early morning and late in the evening.
The villagers have blamed KWS officers for their slow response.
"The officers came once and shot at the waters three times and told us that the animals cannot come out of the water for a long time due to the gun shots. They didn't solve the situation because eventually the animals came out in search of food," said Martin Mwatha, a resident.
Margaret Wamaitha, a mother of two, said she will be forced to take her children to a boarding school as she cannot watch them use the road where the two hippos graze.
The locals urged their MCA, Kennedy Mwangi, to step intervene on their behalf to KWS.
