Disturbed by the incessant cases of cattle rustling in various communities of the FCT, authorities of Kwali Area Council would recruit 50 vigilante members in order to checkmate activities of cattle rustlers in the area.
Chairman of the council, Ibrahim Daniel, who disclosed this during an emergency meeting with traditional rulers, district and village heads in the area, stressed the need to improve security in the council.
He said that the council has directed men of the State Security Service (SSS) in the area to look at the personal record of people before they are engaged into the vigilante group.
“Already the council has directed the SSS to carry out thorough screening so that bad eggs are not found among them, while the police will also advise the council on the kind of equipment to be provided for the vigilante group because we are trying to see how the group will assist in giving useful information to both SSS and the police,” he added.
The council chairman, therefore, advised all traditional rulers to be security conscious and watch the kind of people that come into their domains.
