BIJNOR: A group of six farmers were injured in an attack by a pair of leopard in Khairikhatta village of Bijnor's Afzalgarh area. The agitated villagers, later, trapped one of the leopards and beat it to death. The second leopard managed to flee the spot.
SP Singh, station officer, Afzalgarh police station, said, "On Thursday morning, a group of farmers were working in their farm and two officers of Dwarikesh sugar mill were also conducting a survey in the area when they were attacked by a pair of mating leopards."
A total of six persons including Kulwant Singh, Mohan Singh, Zareef Ahmed, Ranjeet Singh, Bijendra Singh and Anil Panwar were injured. Bijendra Singh was referred to a hospital in Moradabad where his condition was stated to be critical.
District Forest Officer (DFO) Bijnor, Vijay Singh, said, "The leopard, which was killed was four years old. We have informed the higher authorities that a group of villagers killed it brutally. The dead body has been sent for post-mortem. Further investigation will be carried out once the authorities revert."
Just a month before, on May 8, a leopard had entered Dharupur village and attacked the villagers, injuring four of them.
