A team of Forest officials led by Range Officer, Palode, S.V. Vinod on Wednesday nabbed Safir Suleiman, on the charge of poaching. He had been evading the law for the past five years. He killed a sambar deer in the Palode range in 2011 and escaped to the Gulf.
He approached the High Court for anticipatory bail but the attempt failed as the court noticed impersonation, Forest sources said.
Safir returned to the State in January this year and resumed poaching activities. Forest officials got a wind of Safir’s movements during the investigation into the killing of another sambar deer in the Peringamala section. He was trapped on Wednesday morning, Mr. Vinod told The Hindu.
A country-made gun and other weapons were seized. A case under sections of the Arms Act were registered against him by the Palode police.
