Katsina — Federal Operation Unit of Nigeria Customs Service has seized 351 sacks of monkey and bush meat along Jibia-Niger Republic border within Katsina State.
Speaking with newsmen after burning the meat over the weekend, Comptroller of the Federal Operation Unit, Maina Sulieman, said the sacks of the monkey meat were imported into the country from one of the neighboring African countries.
Sulieman disclosed that the seizure as timely, which saved lives of many innocent Nigerians in view of current Ebola disease.
"We don't expect Nigerians to be engaged in smuggling monkey meat in view of outbreak of Ebola disease. We will continue to intensify surveillance in all our borders to arrest possible smuggling of similar commodity.
"Our mandate is not only revenue generation but complement efforts of Health Ministry towards saving lives of Nigerians."
