A serving policeman was among suspected cow rustlers who were arrested while attempting to load stolen cows unto a vehicle in Wamba area of Nasarawa State at the weekend, the leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN) said yesterday.
Secretary of the group, Mohammed Hussaini, said some Fulani nomads, while grazing, discovered a gang of suspected rustlers loading cows into a Toyota Corolla with registration number; Jigawa XA909TWW.
"They tipped the police, who arrived immediately and arrested the suspects. The three civilians among them are: Abdullahi Usman, Tanimu Abdullahi and Aliyu Yusuf," he said.
He told Daily Trust that the three civilian suspects have currently in detention at the Wamba Divisional Police Station, while the policeman arrested with them was taken to the Area Command headquarters in Akwanga.
Hussaini said last week, 350 cows were rustled in Wamba alone and called on government and security agencies to do something about the situation.
When contacted, the state's Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ismaila Umaru, said he had not yet been briefed on the development.
