After midnight on opening weekend of firearms deer season, MDC Conservation Agents Chase Wright (in photo) and Tyson Hartshorn responded to an anonymous tip about poaching in progress in Caldwell County.
The County Sheriff's Office received an anonymous report from a concerned citizen who heard shots after dark and saw a truck parked in a cornfield. Upon arrival, agents made contact with the poaching suspect, who admitted to using his headlights to shine the field after dark, poach a deer, and then hide it using his truck bed mat as cover. Upon uncovering the evidence, agents cited the shooter, seized the rifle and deer as evidence, then donated the deer to a local family.
