Five men face poaching charges after they were found illegally hunting near Wairoa, in northern Hawke's Bay.
The men had been pig hunting without permission in a forest in the Willow Flat area, near Kotemaori on Saturday night.
Firearms, knives and hunting equipment have been seized.
Senior Sergeant Tony Bates says there has been an increase in poaching in Wairoa over the last few months.
He says police will not hesitate to seize and seek the forfeiture of any hunting equipment including vehicles used by poachers.
