The Turaga Ni Vanua of Sawani in Bua says, he and his people will ask the government to survey their portion of the fishing ground in the tikina of Bua.
Emosi Tovuto told FBC News, they want to know the impact of poaching of marine resources from the reef.
Tovuta who is back in Sawani says, over fifty people came in eight fibre glass boats today to harvest for beah-de-mer and other sea slugs.
He explains, the vanua of Sawani has decided that will request for the demarcation of their portion of the fishing ground and have it gazetted as an Marine Protected Area.
Tovuto says, the vanua of Sawani had traditionally declared the particular area as a protected fishing ground and can only be lifted for fundraising for special development projects, by the elders.
Tovuto says they’re awaiting a meeting of the elders of the tikina of Nadi with the relevant government agencies to voice their concern and table their proposals.
