Rift Valley; Kenya: Senator Gideon Moi has asked Inspector General (IG) of Police, David Kimaiyo, to launch immediate investigations into the county's insecurity issues.
Speaking at Mumberes in Eldama Ravine, the senator urged David Kimaiyo to establish the root cause of numerous cattle rustling attacks between Pokots and Ilchamus communities that have claimed several lives and left many others maimed.
"We want all those behind the criminal act of cattle rustling to be dealt with according to the law. Let those in charge of our security not rest until they make sure that peace is restored in affected areas," he said.
The senator condemned the killing of four Illchamus morans on Thursday night at Kiserian after heavily armed Pokot raiders attacked Nosudan village.
During the attack, four people were also injured with three others reported missing after an attempt to recover 31 cattle stolen from the Illchamus community on Thursday night.
More than 50 suspected Pokot raiders, believed to have come from the neighbouring Tiaty sub-county, attacked villages before making away with the animals belonging to Reuben Sadala.
However, residents accused police of failing to intervene saying bodies of those killed remained at the scene for more than 24 hours before they were collected.
"It is unfortunate that innocent citizens are killed while trying to rescue what is genuinely theirs and their bodies are left for days in the bush while those responsible for their security sit and watch," said Renson Barkei (Mukutani).
He said Pokot cattle rustlers ambushed morans and Kenya Police Reservists at Rugus killing four on the spot before fleeing with the entire herd towards Tangulbei.
Tension remained high in the area with over 50 families reportedly fleeing the affected areas for fear of more attacks.
Following the endless confrontation that have threatened to paralyse social and development activities in the area, the IG held a crisis security meeting in Kapedo attended by top security officials from Baringo and Turkana counties.
