A senior SPLA officer has been arrested in Juba for poaching 20 wild animals.
The Ministry of Interior says the unnamed officer was caught yesterday at a checkpoint with dry meat from the animals loaded into two cars.
Major General Philip Chol is the Director General for the national Wildlife Service.
“They were caught at a check point and these people jumped down from the car and threatened the security personnel in check point,” Maj-Gen Chol told Eye Radio.
The men brought the bush meant from Boma. Boma payam is under Pibor County. Boma national park, which is home to a variety of wild animals such as elephants, giraffes, gazelles, is in the area.
Mr Chol has called for awareness on the importance of wildlife conservation.
