Traffic police in Thailand yesterday undertook a spot-check on a pickup truck heading to the Laos border and discovered a haul of hundred of animals including 5 wild tiger cubs aged at about 1 month old. Police believe that the wildlife would eventually be transport to Vietnam and China.
When the truck was stopped the police officers discovered crates containing animals from turtles to lizards. They also discovered 5 small tiger cubs hidden in the back of the truck.
It thought that the many of the animals being transported would be heading for the wild meat trade and Chinese medicine practitioners. The tigers though would most likely be kept in Laos for a year until more fully grown before being transported either to Vietnam or more likely China.
Two Thai men have been arrested for transporting protected and endangered animals.
The tiger cubs are being cared for at a wildlife sanctuary.
