Manyoni District Commissioner (DC), Fatma Toufiq, listed the contraband recovered as 28 pieces of elephant tusks, one skin of a lion, one tail of an eland and four lion claws.
Also seized during the exercise included two Sub Machine Guns, 48 SMG bullets and three magazines. The DC was giving a brief account on the fight against poaching in the area.
She said that the leadership was able to apprehend six suspects after reacting promptly on a tip off from Good Samaritans.
According to her, the incident occurred on July 8, this year when the suspects were caught red-handed with the contraband in one of the guest houses in Manyoni town.
However, the DC refused to give the names of the suspects, saying it would interfere with the ongoing police investigation. She thanked all the people in the district for their total cooperation against the fight, pointing out that without them the fight against poaching in the area would be difficult.
Manyoni , the most sparsely populated district in Singida region has several game reserves, including Rungwa, Kizingo and Muhesi.
