Florida Fish and Wildlife officers (FWC) arrested two men in the upper keys for lobster poaching and possessing undersized fish. Officer Robert Dion and Lt. George Cabanas received information that two males in a small grey skiff were illegally spearing lobster.
The skiff was found on the shore line as two males dove without a diver’s down flag. As the officers approached the skiff the men got on board and tried to flee the area. The operator, Victor Garcia Blanco, turned the boat away from the FWC vessel and the passenger, Nelson Del Le Rosa threw lobster tails over the side of the skiff.
After repeated commands to stop the vessel, the FWC officers were able to secure the two subjects in handcuffs.
A search of the skiff found 88 lobster, 2 mutton snapper, 13 undersized gray snapper and two spear poles. Both men were charged for illegal possession of the lobster and fish. They were also charged with fleeing and eluding and fishing without a license.
