JAISALMER: Two chinkaras, an endangered animal included in the first schedule of the Wildlife Act, have been poached, possibly in connivance with police, by three persons and the matter had been hushed up.
The incident took place at Khuiyala village under Ramgarh police station in Jaisalmer district, five days ago. The matter came to light when personnel of the Sam police station while searching for a notorious smuggler, Kambhira, and his weapon consignment, recovered meat of the two chinkaras. Both the smuggler and his son were arrested.
Later, the SP started an investigation into the poaching on Sunday.
According to sources, Rabu Khan, Jaam Khan and Ameen Khan poached the two chinkaras and the station in-charge of Ramgarh police and other police personnel, possibly with the connivance or under pressure, released the culprits.
The sources further said after the information reached SP Vikas Sharma, he has started an investigation at his level. Sharma said poaching is a serious issue and if any Ramgarh police personnel is found guilty, stringent action would be taken.
