Guwahati: Anti-poaching patrol squad of Kaziranga National Park early on Thursday morning shot dead two poachers in an encounter at the Bagori forest Range of the park.
According to reports, around five poachers had entered the Bagori range of the park with an intention of poaching a rhinos. Acting on a tip off, the anti-poaching squad swung into action. On confronting the poachers, they asked them to surrender. “Instead of paying heed to the warning of the forest staff, the poachers opened indiscriminate fire and in a retaliatory fire by the forest personnel, two poachers were killed on the spot,” said a forest official.
After the encounter, the forest personnel launched an intensive combing operation to nab the remaining poachers who had fled from the scene of encounter.
