A friendly black and white pit bull dog is expected to make a full recovery after a veterinarian removed a carabiner (metal gate hook) piercing through the dog's right hock. A leash had been tied to the clip, and the dog had chewed through his tether to free himself.
Brought into the Miami-Dade Animal Shelter on December 16, a store owner found the dog, now named Ziggs, limping in a Little Haiti neighborhood and called Animal Control.
A veterinary examination at Miami-Dade Animal Shelter described Ziggs' condition upon examination:
"Patient presents for the evaluation of an injury. He is an extremely sweet dog. There is a carabiner that has been stuck, full thickness through the right hock. The dog was sedated and the carabiner could be removed. The area around was clipped, cleaned .... The injury is very chronic and will have to heal by second intention."
Now Ziggs is on his way to a new life and is expected to make a full recovery. Authorities believe Ziggs may have been tethered with the latch through his leg for months. He is now with Forgotten Dog Rescue located in Ft. Lauderdale.
Forgotten Dog Rescue is asking anyone with information about this case of animal cruelty to call authorities or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
