A Vietnamese citizen travelling from Maputo in Mozambique to Hanoi has been intercepted by Kenyan customs officials at Jomo Kenyatt International Airport. He was carrying rhino horn, rhino tails and lions teeth. The items were worth almost £80,000.
Vuanh Tuan, 47 was transferring to his flight to Vietnam when the items were discovered in his luggage.
He was searched after customs officers noticed that he was acting nervously. Airport head of CID boss Judy Jebet said, “When the luggage was searched the products were found wrapped in nylon papers. He will be charged in court on Monday.”
The seizure again shows the important role of Mozambique in the poaching of endangered rhinos and how concerted action within the country needs to be undertaken to bring the poaching and threat to the rhino to an end.
