Poaching is still proving a problem to Whitebait stocks throughout the state as Inland Fisheries continue to implement a long term recovery plan for the recreational whitebait fishery.
To Stanley men were fined over 10 Thousand dollars last week after they were found with 33kg of freshly caught whitebait last October at deep creek near Smithton.
A Trowutta man was fined 400 dollars for possessing an unlawful Whitebait net near an inland water in the same court.
John Diggle from Inland Fisheries says illegal taking of whitebait is a problem.
“Poaching has been an ongoing issue that Inland Fisheries has been dealing with,Its relatively low level in scale but it is persistent,we are working hard to keep on top of any poaching.”
