Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) has arrest an Angolan and four Zambians for being in possession of a Government trophy inside Liuwa Plain National Park in Kalabo District of Western Province.
And ZAWA has predicted an increase in the numbers of poachers in the park this year because of hunger as a result of poor rainfall pattern experienced in the district.
Liuwa National Park Ranger Safely Mulala who confirmed the arrest to ZANIS explained that the suspected poachers were found with assorted game meat that included zebra, tsetsebee, wilderbeast and common duiker weighing 30.6 kilograms.
Mr Mulala explained that the Angolan businessman and four other Zambians have been charged with being in possession of Government trophy illegally contrary to section 100 of the Laws of Zambia and section number 105 of the ZAWA act.
The suspects would appear in court soon. And the Ranger predicted an increase in the number of poachers in the parks attributing the increase to high levels of hunger due to poor rainfall patterns experienced in the district.
Mr Mulala disclosed that the increase would be a great challenge for his department and would endanger wildlife in the park.
