The forest department on Thursday finally registered preliminary offence reports (PORs) in Ranala and Mansar tiger poaching cases. With this the total number of PORs filed in tiger poaching cases has gone up to 10.
Chief of the steering committee on tiger poaching cases and additional principal chief conservator of forests ( APCCF) for wildlife SS Mishra confirmed that POR in Mansar near Ramtek and Ranala near Kamptee cases have been filed.
Arrested tiger skin trader Sarju Bagdi in his statement had said that other traders Dalbir and Kalla had procured tiger skins from Ranala and the fact corroborates with call detail records (CDRs).
According to forest sources, the investigating officials will seek custody of Sarju and Ajit, both in magisterial custody (MCR) and lodged in Central Jail. Besides, officials will leave for Umariya in Madhya Pradesh to seek custody of Saranki on Friday.
Sarju procured two tiger skins from dreaded poacher Ajit and his brother Keru in May from Umred. Saranki was member of Ajit gang, who confessed that Ajit had killed one more tiger in Khumari near Mansar in November last year.
Sources said Ajit, Sarju and Saranki are likely to be produced in Umred court to seek their forest custody (FCR) in fresh PORs. Meanwhile, in another development, tiger skin trader Suraj Pal alias Chacha and Naresh Lala, whose FCR was extended by a day on Wednesday, were produced in the court of RB Raja on Thursday.
As the forest department did not push for their custody, the duo were granted MCR till November 7. Now, both will be sent to Tihar Jail in Delhi from where they were brought on production warrant.
