Dog baiters are believed to have stolen ewes from their lambs and used them to train their animals.
Farmer Richard Spencer who runs 150 ewes in Micklebring, Rotherham, said the bodies of four of his ewes and a gimmer lamb were found dumped in a quarry after going missing earlier this month.
He said: “One of the sheep was only with the ewes because it was recovering from a dog attack in January. It had been chased through the fencing and we found it in a river with the wire wrapped round its legs.
“This time the sheep had been caught and taken out of the field which is even more distressing. They all had puncture wounds around their head and faces and their udders had been bitten.”
Mr Spencer said nine lambs were without their mothers and were being hand reared.
“It would not have been as bad if they had taken sheep which didn’t have lambs,” he added.
“They had obviously planned the attack carefully because they had to come through a potato crop and a wheat field then under a tunnel to get to them.
