Police on Tuesday afternoon arrested four alleged rhino poachers, one in a village close to the Kruger National Park (KNP) and three inside the park, said media liaison officer for SanParks Isaac Phaahla.
“The anti-poaching investigative team with the police were tipped off and made one arrest at the Cork Trust Village just outside of the KNP.”
They recovered a SanParks field ranger's uniform, hunting equipment, guns, ammunition and what was thought to be rhino body parts.
Phaahla said, “The suspect is believed to be part of a syndicate group active within the National Park.”
In a separate incident inside the park, police exchanged fire with a group of three men, allegedly poachers.
Phaahla said one of the men was shot and wounded. He was arrested along with his counterparts.
Police discovered hunting equipment and weapons on the men.
The Park has put several structures in place to curb rhino poaching. More....
