Arizona Game and Fish is asking for the public’s help tracking down an elk poacher who killed and then left the animal near Blue Ridge Estates on Nov. 9.
Officials say the spike bull elk was killed out of season. It was found off Highway 87 near milepost 305.5 on the Coconino National Forest.
Investigators say that the entire animal was left to waste. Officials are hoping someone knows what happened and can aid them in the investigation.
“This case is like so many others, in which we have little to no information or evidence to go on,” said Game and Fish Wildlife Manger Garrett Fabian. “Another issue is the fact that the elk was left to waste and it could have been salvaged and the meat donated to a local food bank or shelter.”
Officials are asking anyone with information to call the department’s Operation Game Thief hotline at (800) 352-0700 or use the online form at www.azgfd.gov/thief.
